John F. Kennedy, the 35th President of the United States (1961-1963), was the youngest person elected to the presidency and the first Roman Catholic to serve in that office. His presidency saw significant moments such as the Cuban Missile Crisis, the launch of the Space Race, the start of the Alliance for Progress, and the establishment of the Peace Corps. Kennedy's time in office, though cut short by his assassination in 1963, is remembered for its high ideals and sense of youthful optimism.
